DataVeil — Install guide

DataVeil is a self-contained HTML file. There is nothing to install — download it once, open it in your browser, enter your licence key, and start anonymizing spreadsheets immediately.

Requirements

• Any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Safari 16+
• A valid DataVeil licence key (DATV-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX)
• Internet access only for the initial licence activation (one-time)

Step-by-step setup

1. Purchase a licence at buy.html → DataVeil. After the order is confirmed you will receive a licence key by email.
2. Download DataVeil.html from the Download page and save it anywhere on your computer. You can move it freely — it has no external dependencies.
3. Open the file by double-clicking it or dragging it into your browser. No server, no extension, no install wizard.
4. Activate your licence — a key-entry gate appears on the first open. Paste your DATV-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX key and click Activate. DataVeil contacts the licence server once to bind the key to this device. Subsequent opens work offline for 7 days.
5. Load your spreadsheet — drag a .xlsx, .xls, or .csv file onto the drop zone or use the file picker.

Offline grace period

After a successful activation, DataVeil works without an internet connection for 7 days. On the 8th day (or whenever you open it after the grace window), it silently re-validates in the background. If validation fails (no internet), it allows one more session and retries next time.

Device binding

Each licence is bound to the first device that activates it. If you need to move your licence to a new machine — for example, after a hardware upgrade — contact support and we will reset the binding within one business day.

Updating DataVeil

Come back to the Download page and grab the latest DataVeil.html. Replace the old file with the new one — your licence key is stored in the browser and carries over automatically.

Anonymizing a spreadsheet

Select Anonymize, load your file, and enter a secret code of your choice. DataVeil produces a single output file:

• anonymized_filename.xlsx — the anonymized sheet, safe to share.

Keep your secret code safe. It is never stored anywhere — DataVeil does not save or transmit it. If you lose the code, the original values cannot be recovered.

De-anonymizing (reversing)

Switch to Reverse (De-anonymize) mode, load the anonymized_ file, and enter the same secret code you used when anonymizing. DataVeil produces:

• deanonymized_filename.xlsx — the original values restored.
